Marunouchi Café
Inside the building. Espresso, matcha, and the studio’s morning default.
We opened in Tokyo in 2023 with one rule: any work we do in Japan, we do from Japan, with people who actually live and operate here. The team is bilingual, half-Japanese-native, and runs out of the Marunouchi Building — on top of Tokyo Station, in the heart of the country's corporate district.
Bilingual strategists, K.K. and G.K. structuring specialists, and a senior client liaison. Half native-Japanese.
Active Japan and APAC engagements over the last 24 months — market entry, supplier diligence, and structuring.
Open studio, traditional meeting room (with shoes-off option), an 8-seat boardroom, and a private call room.
Japanese counsel, Big Four advisors, supplier-diligence partners, and senior operators in our active network.
We're on the seventh floor of the Marunouchi Building (Marubiru), the iconic tower directly opposite Tokyo Station's Marunouchi exit. Reception is on the seventh floor; a BBD team member meets visitors at the building's main lobby.
There are several Tokyo neighborhoods we could have picked — Otemachi, Roppongi, Shibuya. We chose Marunouchi for three reasons that translate directly into shorter engagements.
Tokyo Station sits beneath the building. Shinkansen to Osaka, Sendai, or Sapporo leaves directly below us. Our team can host a morning Marunouchi meeting and an afternoon supplier visit in Nagoya.
Marunouchi holds a high concentration of Japanese-corporate HQs, Big Four advisors, and the major banks. Most of our partner counsel is within a 5-minute walk — covered, even in summer.
Marunouchi is formal in a way our Japanese clients expect and respect. We don't ask anyone to come to a coworking space or a Shibuya rooftop — the address signals that we take their market seriously.
The Tokyo studio is set up for serious working sessions: market-entry workshops, supplier diligence, and Japan-side board meetings. Plan for formality, precision, and excellent tea.
Confirm 48 hours ahead and bring photo ID for the building's lobby system. The Marunouchi Building has a registered-visitor system; we'll send a QR code with your confirmation. A BBD team member meets every guest in the main lobby.
Business attire is expected for Japanese client visits; smart-casual is fine for internal sessions. If your meeting is in the traditional room, plan for shoes-off — we'll let you know in your confirmation.
From Narita (NRT), the N'EX to Tokyo Station is 60 minutes; from Haneda (HND), the Tokyo Monorail to Hamamatsucho and the Yamanote Line is 30. Validated parking is in the Marubiru basement — bring your ticket to reception.
Tokyo Station is directly beneath us. The studio is one of the easiest addresses in the world to reach from any major Japanese city or international airport.
Tokyo Station Marunouchi Central Exit is 90 seconds away through the underground concourse. JR, Shinkansen, and Marunouchi Line all stop here.
Narita Express direct to Tokyo Station, ~60 minutes. By car, allow 90-120 in peak.
Tokyo Monorail to Hamamatsucho, then JR Yamanote to Tokyo. ~30 minutes. By car, ~25-50 min.
All Tohoku, Tokaido, and Joetsu Shinkansen lines terminate at Tokyo Station. The studio is a 4-minute walk from the bullet-train concourse.
Marunouchi is mostly office towers — but the food, hotels, and quiet pockets that exist are exceptional. The team's defaults are below.
Inside the building. Espresso, matcha, and the studio’s morning default.
Soba counter in the underground arcade. Quick, focused, and the team default.
French at Ginza Itoya. Default for founder dinners. Reserve weeks ahead.
Inside the same building cluster. Walking distance to the studio.
Otemachi Tower. Quieter, more deliberate, fits multi-day intensives.
8-minute walk. Open from 9; a 30-minute loop. Best Tokyo morning walk.
Inside the original 1914 Tokyo Station. A useful 20-minute reset.
Ginza, 7-minute walk. Reservations required, low-tempo, a serious bar.
The Tokyo studio is one of ten BBD locations. Most engagements draw on more than one — if your work spans timezones, regulators, or markets, we'll route you to the right combination.

Visits to the Tokyo studio are by appointment so we can pair the right person with the conversation — a 20-minute meet-and-greet, a 90-minute working session, or a full-day intensive. Start with a call; we'll take it from there.
