Chapter 01 · Discuss the Retainer

Discuss
the retainer.

A short form — the engagement you've completed, the tier you're considering, the rhythm you want to keep tight. A 30-minute call follows; the retainer is scoped from there.

A rhythm problem
solved before it lands.

Most of what goes wrong post-launch isn't a build problem — it's a rhythm problem. The Retainer keeps the operating cadence, the market motion, and the strategic spine in sync as the business meets reality.

WHO IT'S FOR

Post-build founders.
Year-one continuity.

For post-build founders who want senior pattern-recognition in the room every week, not every quarter — and would rather prevent drift than rebuild from it. The first year of a company is the year you want an outside eye on.

SIGNALS THIS IS THE RIGHT FIT
  • You've just finished a Founder's or Targeted Build and the thread is still warm.
  • You want senior pattern-recognition in the room every week, not every quarter.
  • Your team is strong enough to execute but not yet dense enough to self-diagnose.
  • The first year of a company is the year you want an outside eye on.
  • You'd rather prevent drift than rebuild from it.
03
Chapter 03 · Standing Access

What's on the
standing table.

Every month — every tier — opens with the same standing access. The tier sets the depth of the bench cycles; the senior chair, the cadence, and the artifacts are constant.

ACCESS 01

Weekly senior decision sessions

A 90-minute working session every week. Senior chair in the room — the person who built the foundation, not a delegate.

ACCESS 02

Specialist bench, priority

Async workstream support from the bench — copy, creative, ops, data — against the priorities set on the weekly session.

ACCESS 03

Portal + live-chat coverage

The same portal that ran the build, plus live-chat coverage during business hours. Nothing ages out in a thread.

ACCESS 04

Monthly written benchmark

A written close-of-month document — what moved, what didn't, the adjusted plan going into next month.

ACCESS 05

Quarterly strategy review

A deeper review every quarter — strategic spine, market motion, and the next 90-day arc. Half-day session.

ACCESS 06

Event & launch support

Scoped support for moments the business depends on — launches, raises, events. Sized to the moment, not the calendar.

ACCESS 07

Hiring & interview support

Job specs, interview rounds, finalist sessions. The senior chair sits in on the hires that shape the next phase.

ACCESS 08

Board / investor prep

On request — board decks, narrative tightening, dry-run sessions before the meetings that matter.

Chapter 04 · What a Month Looks Like

Weekly sessions.
Monthly benchmarks.

Every month closes with a written benchmark. Every week opens with the priorities the benchmark named. Clean baseline every cycle — no drift, no carry-over fog.

CADENCE · MONTHLY CYCLE

Four weeks.
One benchmark.

The cycle is small enough to course-correct inside the month and big enough to actually land things. Weekly working sessions, mid-month check, written benchmark at close.

A MONTH IN THE RETAINER

Cadence,
compounded.

WEEK 01
Session & Priorities

90-minute working session. What changed, what's drifting, what's next. The week's priority list is written before the call ends.

WEEK 02
Execution Support

Async workstream support from the specialist bench — copy, creative, ops, data — against the priorities set in week one.

WEEK 03
Mid-Month Check

Lighter touch. Review what's landed, what's stuck, and whether the month's arc is on track against the benchmark.

WEEK 04
Benchmark & Reset

Written monthly benchmark — what moved, what didn't, and the adjusted plan going into next month. Clean baseline every cycle.

05
Chapter 05 · Tiers & Fee Bands

Three depths.
One cadence.

The cadence is the same at every tier — weekly session, monthly benchmark, quarterly review. The tier sets the depth of bench access and the size of the hands-on cycles inside the month.

TIER 01 · ADVISORY

Light retainer
$2,000/mo.

Senior chair, weekly session, monthly benchmark, portal access. Bench cycles are scoped on request, billed separately at retainer rates.

FOR · TEAMS THAT EXECUTE WELL
TIER 02 · STANDARD

Working retainer
$4,500/mo.

Everything in Tier 01, plus 20 hours / month of specialist bench cycles included — copy, creative, ops, or data. The default tier.

FOR · POST-BUILD CONTINUITY
TIER 03 · DEEP

Embedded retainer
$8,000/mo.

Everything in Tier 02, plus 50 hours / month of bench cycles, board / investor prep included, and a senior second on the bench.

FOR · COMPANIES IN MOTION
SHARED

Same cadence,
every tier.

Weekly session · monthly written benchmark · quarterly strategy review · single portal · senior in the chair. The tier sets the depth, not the standard.

Chapter 06 · Common Questions

Things teams
ask before starting.

The questions that come up before someone fills out the discussion form. Short answers here; the long answers live in the consultation.

Q · 01Can I start with a Retainer without doing a Founder's or Targeted Build first?+
Generally no. The Retainer is designed to compound on a foundation we already understand. Without a prior Build we don't have the shared baseline the weekly sessions depend on. If you've built elsewhere and want to move straight to retainer, we'll usually run a short Targeted engagement first to close the knowledge gap.
Q · 02Why a three-month minimum?+
Because one month isn't a cadence — it's a single touch. The Retainer's value compounds across cycles: the second month's benchmark refers to the first month's; the third month's plan refers to both. Three months is the smallest window where you can actually see whether the rhythm is working.
Q · 03Can I move between tiers?+
Yes. Tier changes take effect on the next monthly cycle. Up or down. Most teams settle at Standard within the first two months, with a temporary step-up to Deep around launches, raises, or hiring sprints.
Q · 04What happens if the senior lead is unavailable in a given week?+
The weekly session reschedules inside the same week — not into the next. If the lead is genuinely out (rare, planned), a senior second runs the session, briefed by the lead. Continuity of the chair is part of the product.
Q · 05What's the exit look like?+
A formal close — written summary of the engagement to date, open questions resolved, portal handoff. After the three-month minimum, the retainer can be paused or closed with thirty days' written notice. The door stays open; clients come back for a second engagement more often than not.
Q · 06Can you also represent us on the board / in investor conversations?+
On request, and inside the Deep tier specifically: yes. Board decks, narrative tightening, dry-run sessions. The senior chair won't take a board seat, but will sit alongside one — and prep the materials that the seat actually needs.
